September 2003

Dear Friend,

Thank you so much for your steadfast support of this ministry. Your gift is especially appreciated this month, when giving is traditionally at its lowest ebb during the year. Unfortunately, neither expenses nor opportunities take the summer off.

I would particularly ask for your prayers for Marius and Gloria Peyre. Marius has headed our projects with the Ticuna Indians, the largest Amazonian tribe, in Brazil, Colombia and Peru. In addition to teaching at their Bible Institute and directing our support of their missionary outreach to other jungle tribes, Marius took the initiative in securing well drilling equipment through Lifewater International. A number of villages already have clean water wells, and more will be added in the coming years. This is a key step in improving the physical health of these communities.

Now Marius, who had moved his family to Florida to cut down on travel costs to the Amazon, has been asked by his new church in Florida and by COMINHA, an association of Hispanic churches and missions, to lead a thrust of Hispanic missionaries into Iraq. Marius made an initial survey trip and discovered that, when dressed in their costume, he easily passed as an Iraqi. And he sees great spiritual opportunities there.

This is a difficult decision for Marius and Gloria. Iraq is simply not within the vision of LAIM. And Marius wants very much to continue his work among the Ticuna. They are asking for clear guidance as they move forward.

My travels this month take me to Russia to speak at a missions conference in Moscow, where hundreds of pastors want to know how to become involved in missions. Then I go to San Fernando, Trinidad, to teach a large class of senior pastors who are working on their doctorate degrees.

God bless you as you pray for the Indian believers, for Marius and Gloria, and for us.
