August 2003

Dear Friend,

We thank you deeply for your gift to the work among the Indians of Latin
America. God is clearly at work among these people groups! Your giving
and your prayer has a direct impact on the growth of the Indian Church
in Latin American .

Felipe Ramos, who is the spiritual leader of the work among the Totonac
Indians, has sent us an update on the work in several of the towns in
his part of the highlands. He pastors the church in Nanacatlan, where
he also trains "disciples". He sends these men and women out by twos
and threes to visit specific locations. Let me give you a brief summary
of his comments:

Rancheria de Zitlala: Three new families are now meeting with the
nucleus for Bible study each week. Because the young people from
Nanacatlan are on vacation, they are also going there to have classes
for the children, and interest is high. There is no regular school in
this place.

Town of Zitlala: This is close by, but the reception has been much
different. So far, only two families show interest in Bible study. But
a man who lives in the Rancheria owes a house in the town, and he is
making that available for meetings every week. This may encourage more
people to participate in the weekly Bible studies.

San Martin: The work with children is again a key to contact with their
parents. Many children just don't show up in the government school,
which is nearby, so the parents are grateful for the attention being
given to the children. They need a new meeting place to accommodate the
numbers.

Tuxtla: There is active opposition in this place in which every home
has an image, and there are frequent religious fiestas with much
drinking. But two families walk several miles each Sunday to attend
services in Nanacatlan.

Rancheria de Katuchoko: Three families have accepted the Lord and are
actively seeking to bring in others. Unfortunately, the place has had
several assaults and robberies, resulting in the death of the father of
one of the families, who leaves his wife, Maria, and three small girls,
Trinidad, Guadalupe and Josefina.

A final note about Nanacatlan: Pray for the completion of the church
building, which serves as the training center for the pastors and
evangelists working among the Highland Totonac Indians. The corn harvest
was not good this year because of a drought, but the people nevertheless
collected $660 for materials. They still need $1100 to complete the
roof.

God bless you and keep you. Gratefully yours,

Dale W. Kietzman
