July 2003
Dear Friend,
Thank you so much for your continued support for this ministry. Last
month I reported on the aborted attempt, apparently by Shinning Path
radicals, to blow up the home of Joshua and Missy Saune, with the whole
family inside. Miraculously, only one stick of dynamite, out of ten in
the package, exploded, and damage was minimal.
Now a month later, Missy reports: "Praise the Lord, we are all doing
well and are safe. To date, we have not had any more problems.
However, we still remain alert and very cautious....There are still
minor problems involving terrorist activities throughout the department
of Ayacucho. The Peruvian government, as well as the National Police,
have acted quickly and remain on alert. We give praise that we have
been able to continue with our ministry safely."
And we should continue to pray for their safety and effectiveness in
ministry.
David Tamez reports on a conference in Mexico City, in which 1500
pastors came together to hear Pastor Rick Warren, of the huge Saddleback
Church in California, presenting his philosophy of ministry on "The
Purpose Driven Church." David discovered that 200 of the pastors
present were Indian, coming from as far away as Chiapas. Five Totonac
pastors were present, and David reports they were all charged up, ready
to go back and apply these church growth principles in their
congregations.
David has been discussing with Indian pastors the possibility of forming
an Association of Evangelical Indian Pastors of Mexico, giving the
pastors a sense of belonging and a voice on the national scene. The
evangelical leaders are enthusiastic and looking forward to a first
meeting, probably early next year.
At the same time, I have become involved in discussions about drawing
together an Amazon-wide Network of Christian tribal leaders, with a goal
of motivating these leaders to take over the missionary task from us
foreigners. This will be a long term project, but we sense God's
blessing in the planning.
God bless you as you pray for the Indian believers, and for us.
In His Service,
Dale Kietzman
