The Situation among the Quechua Indians of Peru

The ferocity and cold-blooded cruelty of the Sendero Luminoso guerrilla group brought economic ruin, social disruption, uncertainty and fear to the people of Peru, especially to the Quechua people in the Andes Mountains.

It is estimated that over 100,000 people died because of this terrorist movement prior to the arrest
of its leader Abimael Guzman in 1992.  Although the figures are staggering, especially the number
of Christians that were brutally murdered because of their faith, this crisis did not destroy the heart of the Church.  The national crisis provoked a massive growth in evangelical churches, especially in the rural areas most affected by the social breakdown.  Since this ordeal began in the 60's the Church has grown seven-fold to 5.7% of the native population.  In many rural areas there has been purification through suffering, revival and miracles.

The Quechua Evangelical Church of Peru

To assist with the many needs that the Quechua people are currently facing, the Quechua Evangelical Church organization was formed.  The goal of this Indian organization is to help indigenous people throughout Peru to become self-sufficient.  This is done through Bible seminars, Pastoral training, medical outreach programs and education through Christian schools.

The Children of Ayacucho

The many scars left behind from a decade of violence and terror in Ayacucho, are more than 5,000 widows and nearly 14,000 orphaned children.  These children have no real chance at a future.  It is for this reason that a school aimed at giving these children a chance at an education was founded.  This school, the "Romulo Saune Quicana Christian School," has now completed its third year.  The school was started through the efforts of concerned people like you.

How can you get involved?

We want to expand the enrollment at our first school, and start more schools throughout the Ayacucho province.  For only $25 per month, you can help make it possible for a child to receive an education that includes one of the highest quality Christian curriculums available.

What will be the result of your sponsorship?

Your sponsorship of $25 per month will pay for a child's tuition, books, school supplies, a school uniform (required by law), and a hot meal daily.  In most cases this may be the only meal the child will receive for the day.  Becoming a sponsor links you personally with a child who really needs your support in order to receive an education.  You could correspond through letters and cards to the child you are sponsoring.  Most of all, your sponsored child will learn about Jesus and discover how to develop a lifelong relationship with God.  God can use you to make a powerful difference in the life of a child.
